Presentation Boards - Khulan Altangerel, Izabella Cząstkiewicz, Hanan Osman, Ewelina Stawowy Our endeavours to create a coherent new development scheme for Otwock concluded, after many hours of public discussions. We believe that we proposed an attractive iteration of the what Otwock can become and we have shown the potential for further development, with emphasis on the importance of programme. It was crucial in our project to take the influence of the Public into consideration, as they are our main recipients, who will first hand experience the proposed services, activities and places. The reorganisation of the urban layout of the target node was in our belief only the first step in the development scheme that could potentially spread out through Otwock. In our approach we relied heavily on the notion of working with the inhabitants, in order to include every desire and need, as well as the greenery and reorganising it. We believe that organised greenery gives an opportunity t

Process of Implementation & Public Participation

As the response to the brief, our main objectives were to 1) improve the public space and reprogram its use ; 2) enrich the community's life within Otwock   by implementing various activities and services, especially for the young; 3) improve the air quality in Otwock; 4) redefine the urban layout   and improve the surroundings of the designed area. Ad. 1) Public Space Research conducted on site in Otwock proved that public spaces are disused and their programmatic use has been redefined by the inhabitants, who naturally imposed their preferred services. It can be assumed that the intended programme implemented by the municipality of the town did not take on well with the public. Therefore, our design operations were focused on reprogramming the use of public spaces by introducing activities and services which are desired by the public, which will be discussed during public consultations. Ad. 2) Community Life As the research proved again, communal life is existent, bu

The Scenario

Our intervention is divided into 3 phases:       - Phase 1 Mobile Booths       - Phase 2 Feedback and Public Consultations       - Phase 3 Community Centre 1. Phase 1 -  Mobile Booths After discussing what strategy would be the most productive for this project, we have decided to begin our project implementation by introducing Mobile Booths . These are mobile units, which will travel around Otwock on defined routes for 1 year, will provide activities and offer services adequate to the potential needs and wants of the community of Otwock. They will act as attractors for the locals to take interest in potential activities and services and to create awareness about the upncoming changes in their town. They will have additional services proposed by us as to enrich the programme. After each month the Mobile Booths will travel to another destination, crossing paths with each other, thanks to which the services and activities will be in reach for every single inhabitant in every

Site Selection and Stages of Urban Intervention

Obraz
While choosing a site for our urban intervention we focused on selecting a site which was of socio-economic importance and therefore gathers many locals. We were searching for a space that was served as a transition place for the youth and a crossing of many functions. Therefore, we have decided to choose the crossing of st. and Reymonta st. Reasons for site selection : 1. Local socio-economic centre:      - place of multifunctional importance, economical node      - it a place of local economical importance, as there are 2 big shops (Top Market and Biedronka) and a pharmacy, which are placed next to each other, and a Motorcycle Repair Shop. This means that locals gather here in large numbers to collect groceries and therefore, it becomes a place of social interaction; 2. Local educational centre:      - this place gathers students from around town who attend the Zespół Szkół Ekonomiczno - Gastronomicznych im. S. Staszica. We have observed that after the classes finish, the

Project Introduction - OTWOCK 2.0

Obraz
Otwock 2.0 is a project dedicated for the Information Processing in Urban Planning course at the University of Technology in Warsaw. The objective of this project was to address the issues connected to inadequate town planning, which in turn leads to socio-economic issues in Otwock, as well as the poor environmental conditions of the town. Our group's aim is to address issues such as lack of multifunctional public space/place , lack of educational, informative or recreational activities for the inhabitants , in particular the young, and the severe air pollution in Otwock. Our urban interventions focus on the Eastern side of the town of Otwock, at the crossing of Żerosmkiego st. and Reymonta st. This is a site which can act as a spatial connector between the existing town centre and the planned development. We will propose a solution for an appropriate urban layout of the site, with an end-goal of implementing a Community Centre , which will provide the inhabitants with vario
